I’ve worked for several landscapers here in Kelowna and the lack of knowledge is ridiculous, the lack of caring is concerning. What’s horrifying is the city’s refusal to put barrier to entry for anyone current or future looking to get a business license in the city to be a landscaper, restrictions on developers too. Rock, rock and more rock then throw in a couple plants that are currently trendy. EVERY landscape should be designed by a university educated hortulturalist and install supervised by horticulture techs from designated colleges, labor is labor, equipment operators should have seat time AND certification (updated every 3-5 years). Irrigation designers and techs as well. Lots of talk from government and zero action in the Okanagan. Governments too like to throw out key trendy words and phrases while having absolutely no knowledge. Not to mention their unionized “experts” basically they flunked out of college and got on with the city because they can’t get a real job. Spewing false narratives, ant vax business owners with zero knowledge, education or experience. Sad.

Great video! Square Dancing is international! "We do not grow too old to dance. We grow old because we do NOT dance." ~ Herb Greggerson, Square dance caller 1953
It would've been nice if this program wasn't just talk then maybe I would have actually gotten an education and grown as a person in high school instead of picking up the pieces now in my adult life.
Curtis was a smartass punk when I knew him growing up in Edmonton. Probably not feeling so superior right about now.
The challenges of bringing new blood into Piping and Drumming have always been a problem, in Canada. Scotland over the past couple of decades has made Piping a part of its regular school curriculum and has made great strides in engaging young people . The band I play with in Ontario has ,over the last year, not only faced the challenges of rebuilding after the ravages of Covid, but has actively begun a teaching program for youngsters. After some initial resistance from the Local schoolboards we have had growing success in recruitment. Support from other community groups has been slowly increasing and this year we expect to see our numbers of students swell even more. Grow your own seems to be the answer,
